Matthew Jordan-Miller Kenyatta, Ph.D. is a scholar-artist-advocate-author who works at the intersection of taste, place, and urban change from Afrofuturist and design justice lens. Currently a researcher and lecturer in City and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design, his teaching focuses on spaces of Black urbanism and heritage, community-engaged design, and public art/storytelling. Dr. Kenyatta is a cited author of articles and book chapters in multiple journals and textbooks and is finishing his first book to be published by UPenn Press. In 2021, he was appointed as the School of Design's first Director of Justice & Belonging Initiatives. In 2023, he became the inaugural 21st Century Historic Preservation Leadership Fellow at the U.S. Advisory Council for Historic Preservation and he serves as the youngest commissioner on the Philadelphia Art Commission.
