Placing Juneteenth

The Center for the Preservation of Civil Right Sites

Juneteenth is a commencement (meaning beginning) of African Americans’ celebration of freedom. Although we collectively celebrate on the day of June 19th, our personal reflections do not end come June 20th. Celebrations of freedom continue in our recognition of spaces, places and stories that remind us of long struggles for civil rights and expressions of freedom that ensued.

To honor these histories of freedom, we are asking you and others to share with us the spaces, places and stories that evoke the essence of Juneteenth for you.
